Debbie Addison of WILD FRONTIERS forwarded the following update on what’s happening in Rwanda.
1) SABINYO SILVERBACK LODGE
Officially opened in June 2008. It’s a good place although expensive. Occupancy levels are very high, so book early to avoid disappointment.
2) ELEGANT AFRICA CAMP / RUHENGERI
This will probably be the best and certainly the most personal place in Rwanda once opened. Located in a big forested area 2 KM outside Ruhengeri town. Good progress with the construction now, 200 workers on site! May open December 2008 or slightly later.
3) CULTURAL VILLAGE / RUHENGERI – KINIGI AREA
Finally one very good place available for the Eco Tour enthusiasts.
4) TOP TOWER HOTEL KIGALI
48 room hotel due to open September 2009.
5) BOURBON COFFEE HOUSE KIGALI
New coffee house now has 2 great places in Kigali – we often take clients there for just coffee of even lunch! Great place, makes/blends/roasts their own coffee “in house”!
6) AFRICA BITE / VERY GOOD AFRICAN RESTAURANT IN KIGALI
A very good little restaurant serving genuine Rwanda food – we as often as program allows take clients there for lunch whenever included in their program!
7) ECO LODGE JUST OUTSIDE NYUNGWE FOREST
Purchased by “Dubai World”. To be managed by “Kempinski”. Construction proceeding and due to open 2009.
8.) SOURCE OF THE NILE
The real source of the Nile lies in Rwanda as you all know, and can be visited on the outskirts of Nyungwe forest!
9) AKAGERA NP TO BE RE-STOCKED
Akagera NP will be “re-stocked” with approx 2,500 animals during the course of 2009! Its already a birders paradise and I have had 3 clients now who insist they have lately seen the “Shoebill Stork” there – good news indeed.
