Kigale. City centre on hill to left. No ATM that took plain VISA or MC, needed VISA electron or other additions so had to change precious dollars at Forex.
Karibu restaurant for excellent lunch buffet 2500, pleasant garden with tables
Café Bourbon in shopping mall (Union trade centre) had excellent coffee and croissants and other dishes.
Lunch at Hotel de Mille Colline more expensive but lovely swimming pool
Stayed at One Love Club (!), on Ave de Poids Lourds, an inner bypass at the bottom of the hill, a Japanese Rwandan enterprise for fitting artificial limbs. Large, basic, simple rooms ensuite, clean, garden restaurant with simple meals, friendly. 25000Rfr for double, 2000Rfr each for breakfast. Rastafarian Church (we were not there for a service).
Memorial to Genocide, (free but donations suggested, worthwhile audio guide 5Rfr) an excellent presentation of the background and events of the Genocide. Very moving and well worth visiting.
Ruhengeri, take road out of Kigali towards Kivu and turn right over bridge after about 2 km, good road. Visited Virunga lodge, stunning situation, worth the 5 km or so of difficult road. Lunch expensive at 11000Rfr each but it was delicious!!!!
Hotel Muhabura , comfortable but faded and needs updating, simple, clean but room a bit musty. Reasonable food. 25,000Rfr double room. +250 0252546296 www.hotelmuhabura.com, email: firstname.lastname@example.org
