Extensive updates from Stella

Gisenyi
P179-180: Paradis Malahide (great place) now costs Rfr 40,000 B&B.

There are a couple of other options now at Rubona, further up the hill:
Palm Garden Resort m 0788 306 830/0788 834 800
vedaste@mercatorassistance.rw or info@mercatorassistance.rw ;
www.yvke-beach-resort.com. This new hotel has bungalows set in
manicured gardens next to the lake with a beach. Rfr 45,000.

Also La Bella Lodge, camping and restaurant. 0788 510 714/0783 373
400; labellalodge@labellalodge.comwww.labellalodge.com. We didn’t go
down to look but the website says: “For accommodation at La Bella, you
have the option of bungalow, apartment or camping. All our rooms are
luxurious, chalet style with have beautiful verandas overlooking the
beautiful Lake Kivu whose shore is just a few steps from your room.
There is a large camping space in our beautiful grounds by the lake as
alternative accommodation.
Room accommodation costs only USD 80 per room per night. The charges
not only cover accommodation but also breakfast for one. If the room
is shared the second guest may buy our very affordable breakfast.
Tent accommodation costs only USD 20 per person per night. This gives
you a wonderful camping experience by the lake.”

Butare
p 135: National Museum of Rwanda has a new telephone number: (+250)
252 530 207. Fax : (+250) 252 530 211. (The museum website
www.museum.gov.rw is not currently working but they told me they are
doing work on it and it should be up and running again … sometime.)
By the way, museums are open as usual on umuganda days (last Saturday
of every month). Entrance fees for all museums have gone up to Rfr
6,000 for non-residents; Rfr 5,000 for foreign residents; Rfr 3,000
for foreign students/pupils; Rfr 1,000 for Rwandan adults and Rfr 500
for Rwandan students/pupils.

302 or 088 401 228.
Room costs have gone up to Rfr10,000/18,000 sgl/dble; Rfr25,000 for
apt (though these may be let out).

Accommodation in Kigali
p93: Shoestring accommodation in Kigali: Centre National de Pastorale
St Paul: prices are now Rfr 8,000/15,000 sgl/dbl with shared
facilities, Rfr 12,000 and 15,000 en-suite twin. It is rather run
down.
AEE (African Evangelical something) Kabeza M: 0785 668 836/0788 744
011/0788 648 836; hisraelguestcentre@gmail.com is a nicer, cleaner
option, which unfortunately is not central but is just a 15 minute
walk from Remera taxi station (and 30 minutes from VSO office). Rooms
are clean and comfortable with nets. From Rfr 8,500/15,000 sgl/twin
shared bathroom; Rfr18,000/20,000 en-suite sgl/dbl. Breakfast is Rfr
2,000. From Remera taxi station walk downhill, directly across the
crossing and after a further 10 minutes look for the AEE sign
directing you down a dirt road to the right.

p95: Heaven Restaurant and Bar no longer has landline. Films are shown
at 19.30 only to my knowledge.

Zaaffran M 0783 042 504; zaaffran.rwanda@yahoo.com This is another
really good Indian restaurant in Kiyovu, on Akagera Road near La Bonne
Souce supermarket. I haven’t been to Khana Khazana but when in Kigali
try to get to Zaaffran. Most main courses are in the Rfr 3,500-4,900
price range.

Hi Stella, I’m a student from England and I’m currently doing a project on water sanitation and availability in developing countries, particularly Rwanda. I came across several of your updates from Rwanda, and I was wondering if you had any tips for me in finding information from people living in Rwanda about everyday life, the good things, the problems etc. Your help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
