Minibus-taxi travel

Just back from visiting friends in Kigali, Kibungo, Gahini and Rubavu(Gisenyi).

Firstly, the book is brilliant – great level of detail, most of which is simply not available anywhere else, including online.

A couple of things below which may or may not be useful!

Minibus-taxis are now apparently required to have speed limiters installed, so they travel at a reasonably sedate pace. The main consequence is that the journey times might need updating. eg, we travelled from Kigali to Rubavu (Gisenyi)last week and both journeys took almost exactly four hours, rather than three. Not a problem if you’re soaking up the scenery and talking to fellow passengers, but just to be aware for those on a schedule.

As with many things in Rwanda, the bustling stations have a slight appearance of chaos, but are pretty straightforward to navigate. Journeys were comfortable and felt entirely safe.
